About Shyogwe Diocese

Bishop Jered

The Anglican Church of Rwanda has eleven Dioceses with over one million Christians.  The Diocese of Shyogwe is led by Rt. Reverend Jéred KALIMBA.

The Diocesan motto is: “Your Kingdom Come!” The objective through the integral mission of “each member having a holy soul in a healthy body.” The Diocese has thirty three (33) parishes and 147 sub-parishes or Chapels (That is 180 congregations) with a total of 25,840 Christians located in four Districts: Kamonyi, Muhanga, Ruhango, and Nyanza of the Southern Province of Rwanda. It has 616 home groups (grassroots churches).

The Church has a role providing a healing ministry to the many traumatised people in Rwanda and working towards reconciliation, restoration, and rehabilitation of the people. The Church has also been involved in rural development, medical work, vocational training, and education.

The Diocese is mainly rural, and the population is very poor. Many people are still suffering greatly from the results of the genocide and war in 1994. Together with the Government, the Diocese tries to handle many survival issues that the people and believers are facing.

The Parish of Marchwood has been linked in a partnership of prayer and friendship with the Parish of Nyarugenge since before the genocide in 1994.
